A friendly site dedicated to laparoscopic surgery. It's directed toward both physicians and the general public and always highlights one or two operations with photographs or video. Beware of the surgeon referral area - the surgeons report their own talents and are not screened.

	SAGES Web site for the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. This organization has provided the main thrust for the advancement of minimally invasive surgery over the past decade. It is directed mainly toward physicians, but there's interesting and potentially useful stuff in there, including the society's recommendations regarding hospital credentialing of surgeons in laparoscopic surgery and GI endoscopy.
	ASGE Web site for the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. This group promotes standards for practicing GI endoscopy by both surgeons and gastroenterologists. Site has a patient information section.
	American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons This is the society for surgeons board certified in the practice of colon & rectal surgery. Comprehensive site with a nice patient information section.

An educational site about many different operations geared to the patient rather than the physician. Uses many diagrams and video clips. A general overview, however. Our surgeons may have slightly different approaches and opinions.

Maine Medical Center - Portland, Maine

Web site from the state's largest hospital. It has interesting information about some of southern Maine's health programs. It also has a useful directory of all the physicians on staff at MMC and, therefore, most of the physicians in Portland.

One of Maine Medical Center's pages dedicated to available low-rent short-term housing to the families of hospitalized patients.

	General Surgery Residency Program at Maine Medical Center Our surgeons are on the teaching staff at Maine Medical Center and have clinical appointments from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. As part of our activities, we help train general surgery residents and Vermont medical students.
