Bariatric Surgery Program
Pre-Operative Diet

horizontal separator

Reason for the diet - One of the most difficult problems our surgeons can encounter during your Gastric Bypass or LAP-BAND surgery is an enlarged liver. This condition is common among obese patients and can make an otherwise simple operation much more dangerous. We have found that dieting before surgery can significantly shrink liver size and make operations shorter and safer. For two weeks before your operation, you should follow this diet to prepare your body for surgery.

The recommended preoperative diet will consist of a prescribed amount of a high protein drink plus one meal. Weigh and measure all foods.

Begin the preoperative diet 2 weeks before your surgery.

PLAN:   3 high protein drinks per day (more if indicated) AND 1 Meal
